Staff Profile

I have over 20 years of research and laboratory experience, starting as a Trainee Technician at Newcastle University before completing my PhD at Nottingham. I spent time working in commercial labs in Wiltshire and Northern Ireland, before returning to Newcastle University in 2002.

I am a champion for technicians in higher education and as such became a Registered Scientist (RSci) in January 2016 via the Professional Registration Scheme for technicians. I was a board member for the National Technician Development Centre (NTDC) for a number of years, and am on the organising committee for the national Technician Partnership Conference held in Newcastle biennially. I have been in my current post as Research Technical Team Lead in FMS since January 2020. Last year I completed an MSc in Strategic Leadership, accessed via the university apprenticeship scheme.
